Hi
I recently pulled out my Fender Deluxe 8 and noticed that the sound was very weak. After testing each pickup it seems that the bridge pickup has died. I inspected that pickup carefully but couldn't see any breaks in the wire but I assume that it has shorted out somewhere. Can anyone tell me what would cause a pickup to do this? Also, would it be better to have the pickup rewound or should I replace it?

It's possible the pick has lost it's magnetic charge. That's a pretty old pickup. You may get other soultions here.

Also check the solder joints. I once had a T8 Stringmaster shipped to me that got smacked on it's face by UPS--the guitar was fine, but two of the pickups were DOA. My tech traced the problem to the solder joints--easy fix.

I was looking on the HSGA site and found a similar guestion. The answer referred to seymourduncan.com who sells Fender replacement pickups. Go to products, antiquity and they are there with all the specs. He sells thru local retail shops, but just type in your zip and they will give you local places.
