scammed revisited

Post by Hap Young »

I would like everyone who contacted me to know that I have received my cases from Gary. He told me that he has been having problems ( he didnt elaborate) also he is having trouble with his phone and computer. I will say that the cases are very well made and they look real good. If you order from Gary you probably will have to wait awhile for them. I would like to express my sorrow for the way that I reacted twords Gary and his not shipping when he said he would, but because of his problems he was unable to. Thanks for all the help....Hap

Hap, I'm so glad this had a happy ending. As I stated in the other thread, Gary is slow but his workmanship and quality almost (I said almost) makes up for the long delay in receiving them. Even with the lengthy time in getting the cases, I would still recommend him for any case or rack. Image

I don't know if it played a part here, but the Net is wonderful in that we, the consumers, can apply immediate pressure on businesses to do the right thing.

Also, E-mail is so affordable and easy that there is no excuse for businesses not keeping the customer informed as to the order status. If one's PC goes down, then one could visit a friend or the library and send E-mail via Webmail.

We are empowered!

"It's the Net, baby. Deal with it!!!"

Once you are bitten by the dog, regardless of what happens after the fact...you have been bitten and scars don't always totally heal. Just a touch of "Red Neck Philosophy". I think there is a message there somewhere.

Is it time to say "I'm sorry"?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! We're glad you got your cases. HOWEVER, there was an obligation made to you, in which the cases would be delivered by a certain time, in a certain condition, etc. etc. The obligation was the seller's. The fact that you had to go through the distress you did, probably with some sleepless nights, wondering if you would ever recieve them, if you were "scammed", and to reluctantly have to put pressure on him, was totally unfair to YOU. To make your life miserable was unfair to YOU. To not get in touch with you when he knew there would be delays was unfair to YOU. HE should apologize to you, not the other way around.

Reggie, you are correct there was NO scam. However, someone yelled "scam" and "bit" Gary. Gary now has a "scar" and will only be remembered that he was suspected of a scam even tho he is innocent. Bad news is always front page stuff and retractions and apologies wind up on the back pages in the small areas as fillers. I think we (myself included) all too often jump before all the facts are in...

Again, with Reggie on this. Tell ya what, if I don't get my case, I will consider it a donation to Gary's Church and order a case that I didn't particularly want. I want GARY'S case, I looked at them all before I decided. I will give him a call on Monday and see how it is coming along before I write off as a donation. This guy makes good stuff, and worth the wait.

No SCAM? ....you say.

You said you were "Sorry" to Gary?

What about untold others.......that your post about an "anonymous" SCAMMING guitar, case-maker might have adversely affected?

As a direct result of your post.......I cancelled out my order with John Tipka in Ohio.......since I felt the gamble was too great to take. I had no idea WHO had scammed you, and am not into mind games, and I didn't have any extra money to throw away.

I read your post, and without advance warning, my phone rang and Mr. Tipka told me he was ready to start on my custom case. I didn't have the opportunity to recheck my computer or your post and simply told the man on the phone to cancel the order.

My REACTION toward John was a direct result
or YOUR POST. JOHN TIPKA did NOTHING to deserve this financial loss and I, am now out the custom case that I dearly wanted but now haven't the guts to re-order with John.

So, I do believe, in a constructive sort of way, that your mystery person post may have had far reaching impact on more than the one individual with whom YOU had a personal conflict.

I think these kinda of "blind" warnings to we Forumites is just a bit on the shady side of being truly proper. Perhaps there's another way this kind of conflict can be handled in the future. I sincerely hope so.

I still think it's valuable to raise what we believe are legitimate concerns in this public forum. However, we all have a choice as to how we react to it, I suppose. I guess the lesson might be not to be overly reactionary about stuff - on either side of the coin.

In Hap's original post, he offered to send the name of the "scammer" via e-mail. I think I would have found out the guy's name, before I cancelled ANY custom order. I have dealt with custom orders of many types before, and, be they building contractors, guitar makers, or proctologists, not one has delivered on time. We can all learn a little something about patience, here, can't we. If Gary has the additional duties of pastoring a church, then his church family should come before ANYBODY'S case order. But that's just one man's view. God bless!

Gary, you don't owe the Forum or the rest of us any kind of apology. We're just a bunch of busy-bodies out here in cyberspace. Your business is with Hap, and it's really none of our business at all.

Best wishes to you, Gary.

I got Gary's email about my case being ready and wanting to verify my address. I can't wait til it arrives, I know it will be worth the wait. Pastors are on top of 'ol Satans list, I know this from past experiance.

I traded some gear to Gary for a rack case and while it took him a while to get it to me, I was quite pleased with it. Gary makes a great product that is worth waiting for if you have the time to wait.

I have been watching this post and I just have put my thoughts in on this - - - -
About 1 1/2 years ago I ordered A Seat from Gary - He told me it would be as good or better than Ken Rolands pak-a-seat - I sent him the money with his promise that I would recieve the seat in about 10 days to 2 weeks. After listening to the same story he is using now about everything going to hell on him - I waited and waited and waited - - -After about 1 1/2 months, it finally showed up after me having to get a little threatening. Because of having to wait so long for the seat, he promised me a case to put my seat in at no charge.
1. The seat was poorly built!
2. I feel I was lied to!
3. I never did recieve the case!!!!

You can make your own judgement on this - But I don't like someone hiding behind religion in sales!!!
[This message was edited by rpetersen on 09 June 2002 at 06:44 AM.]
