Did you go to the record store every week to see who played on the country records? Were you upset when the credits weren't listed? Did you ever tear one open to see if the credits were on the inside? Did you pay attention to who all of the musicians were, or just the steel player? Did you know who played on every song out, before you looked? |

Yes. They had a great 2nd. floor at Sam the Record Man in downtown Toronto during the 70's and had all current country, bluegrass, folk and blues and much obscure stuff. New a friend that worked there and copped me Chalker's Big Hits on big steel lp. |

Hey John, bought a few from there back then -- good prices too.
To be fair, I always look at who else is on there playing with whoever the singer is.....why not, they are the stars too, the singer is there to carry the load.
Bob Mainwaring. Z.B. and other weird things.

Joe:
It just dawned on me that you may be sincere in asking the question about the Edison's.
Names were printed on a cardboard container that the cylinder came in. |

The early cylinders had the song name or singer on their container only. But some of the later cylinders (is that an oxymoron?) had the info etched (molded?) onto the outside edge of the cylinder...between the end and where the grooves started. |

I haven't seen a cylinder record for years. Or a wire recorder.
Nostalgia! I love it!

Yes I did. Yes I was. And yes I bought some in spite of who was listed. I fact, I still do. |

My friend Frank who plays guitar, but not steel, has an old edison cylindar player and a fairly large collection of cylindar recordings. He also has a nice collection of antique guitars and other instruments. His house is like a musieum of old musical stuff.
I think it's very cool. |
