This past Saturday, the Blue Highway Festival was held in Utecht, Netherlands, and the opening act was the Brooklyn Cowboys featuring Buddy Cage on steel; what a way to kick off a music festival! I wish I had some pics but I don't---you'll just have to settle for an attempted verbal description of how great Buddy's playing was, and I can sum it up in one word: GREAT! I was glad our band didn't have the next slot

We (Jesse Dayton Band) played the last time slot of the show following the TwangBangers, which meant that I had to play after Joe Goldmark had already filled the room with great tone and a ton of super licks.

It was a good place to be if one had to work and couldn't attend the Dallas show...

Ouch!! I've seen Joe Goldmark play. If I had to play after him, I would come down with a sudden illness and have to leave!! When I saw him play with the Twangbangers it was a beautiful thing to behold.

Yeah, I was there too and it was well worth the journey! Finally got to see Buddy Cage perform and talked to him for quite some time, too - what a friendly guy. To hear those favorite licks played live for the first time is something you just can´t describe. Compared to the CD, the Brooklyn Cowboys sure are a brutal live act, with a lot of raw energy. Great songs, and a surprise too - they played "Panamaaaa Red" with a great ride from Buddy - I couldn´t believe it!
The Twangbangers were the only other band I managed to see full length. It was a BLAST all the way through, great songs and great pickers. And yes, Joe Goldmark´s playing has magic in it. He´s now another of my favorite steel players!
One more thing that I liked a lot... all the steel players on that festival played through Fender amps cause that was all there was, and they all sounded great!
