Does anyone know who played steel on the Texas Troubadors "Panhandle Rag"? It's the version with a phony audience before and after the band's track.

The only version I've heard is with Buddy Charleton and Leon Rhodes.

.....and you can find it on the album "Ernest Tubb Presents the Texas Troubadors".....(Charleton also does a great version of "The Waltz You Saved For Me" on this album)........ www.genejones.com

Contrare. There's a live ET album that has one instrumental cut on each side. The version of "Steel Guitar Rag" is, flat out, best I've ever heard-the twin'ing with Leon is smooth and effortless, and both their lead breaks are fantastic. Yea, it has the cheezy, canned, applause, but, it doesn't diminish the performance.
I'd like to know if it was truly "live"-it was common practice in that era for them not to be.
BTW the "ET Presents..." studio album, though it's decent, none of the tracks have the pizzazz of those two live tunes.

The live albums were most always taken into the studio and "cleaned up". Jody.
