Talked to Rebecca at Emmons yesterday, and she is going to cal me this Friday.1/18/02 and let me know what day next week there going to ship my new Emmons.

Bill,
I've got an Emmons SD-10 LeGrande II on order and due to me in February. (3 months lead time).
When did you order yours and what exactly did you order? Just curious as to how they're keeping up with their time line.
Have you called them regularly to check the progress? I've thought of that but didn't want to bother them.

Tony, I have an SD-10 and the pad was to low from the factory, so I had a piece of wood milled down to 1/2 inch, got some longer screws and now I have something to rest my arms on. I'd try to get Ron to make the pad as high as the strings on a D-10.

Bob,
I know what you mean as I tried an SD-10 at a local dealers. I think I might like to try the low pad first, though. My present SD-10 has a higher pad and if forces me to put a bend in my wrists and might be causing some carpel tunnel and tendonitis problems.
However, in the end, I might just follow your adaptation. Thanks for the thought and idea.

I am still having trouble understanding why some people order a guitar from the factory and then gripe on this forum because they have to wait to get delivery. If you order from the factory ,you should expect to wait.This puts you at the back of the line. If you don't want to wait, Call a dealer and get a new guitar in 2-3 days.This way , the dealer is the one that had to wait.I see much complaining on this forum about delivery time from MANY manufacturers. If you don't want to wait, then bypass the manufacturer, go to the dealer and get your guitar,then you don't have to show your lack of patience. It seems that the most desirable guitars are the ones that are hardest to get, but a good dealer will stock what the customer wants. If it's a good guitar, make the dealer wait for it, If it is a "not to desirable guitar brand",the factory may get it right to you. If you DO want a special order custom guitar, you should still order it through a dealer because he may be able to switch it with a guitar that he has already had on order for months. I just can't understand why someone goes to the back of the line then complains because he has to wait.

Billy, I'm not refering to you only,I see this complaining out of many people, A lot of trouble can be spared by just buying the guitar and getting it and being done with it. So simple!

You are absolutely right. And I hope you don't read my previous comments and questions as complaining. I am willing to wait a reasonable amount of time for my custom order from Emmmons.
I did, in fact, order mine from a local dealer who has given me good service in the past and will be able to do regular repairs and maintenance on the instrument. I prefer supporting local dealers/business, as long as they are reliable, honest, and competitively priced. So, I'm with your philosophy all the way.
I'll be in Nashville on Saturday and Sunday.
If my wife will let me sneak away from her shopping trip, I'll stop by the store.
Can't wait to see the Opry this weekend.
It's been quite a while.

Tony, the pad only needs to be as high as the strings on a D-10 C6th neck. Higher than that would be worse than being to low.

Bobbe is 100% correct. Ordering through a dealer is definitely the way to go. I dealt straight with the factory on a repair, and it was a major pain in the ass. Dealers are the only way to go, period.

I had to wait on my PSG to be built. But it was well worth the wait !! This is an allwood cabinet with Mother-of-Pearl inlay. The color is a red laquired(sp?) job with birds-eye. I have been offered far more that I paid for it. This axe was built to my desires and set up for me. Even the leg lenght was taken into condsideration for my height.
If I even thought I had a complaint about it, It would be that the p/u is too hot. I,ve had to raise the distance from the strings to keep the sound from being distorted.
Of course, as with any new axe,one must set it up to your own touch,feel and physicial needs. While this may take a few weeks or months, the overall results will be a instrument that plays well and is an enjoyment to hear.

Bobbe, your so right If and when I buy any other steel's I will come down to your place like in the past, As far as my complaint, If you all remember like I posted on the forum,Under The Aycoth ownership, I was given 3 different delivery dates when my steel would be shipped, this all staryted in June 2001 and it hasnt made it here as of yet, but today is when Rebecca is supposed to caqll me for the delivery date for this coming week.. The only trhing Bobbe if and when I buy from you, you know you have to put the Day setup on the steel dont you???
BUT THEN AGAIN IF I WAS AS GOOD AS WORKING ON THEM AS YOU I'd DO IT MYSELF, BUT WE ALL CANT BE GREAT PLAYERS AND REPAIRMEN ALL IN ONE.

Or, it may be that the guitars that you have to wait for, the factory just dont have their act together. The guitars that you can get in 30 days or less maybe they have done their home work and do have their act together. Bobbe is right about going through a dealer. But How many times will a dealer have what you want. Not very often. If he does great, but if not why have a middle man. I know two warrantys. I think if you buy a guitar and you think you need two warrantys there is smoething wrong with that picture. If you deal with a builder who cares about his reputation instead of one who is using the reputation someone else built, then I don't see a problem. But, a good salesman will tell you you need a middle man. What's his line, "I'm your friend, trust me, I will take care of you, I know what is best for you". HEE HEE

| I bought 2 identical Emmons guitars, one from the factory and the other from Bobbe. I got a better deal from Sleazmour, better service on the guitar, a pat on the butt from Jeannie (you didn't see that, did you?) and I can complain to him anytime I want to. Of course, that doesn't mean he ever listens to me. This is only in reference to the Emmons Co. under the ownership of the Aycoth's and not the present owners and certainly not a slam against any manufacturer as there are three others that I deal with and am totally satisfied with their service and product. Billy, I'm so happy that you will be finally receiving your new Emmons. I know you will enjoy it. |
