While checking my website last night, I noticed that some guy named Herb showed up
on my friends page. Anybody know this guy??

Select this link to check this out: http://www.slidestation.com/friends.htm

Seriously, Herb has become a great friend
and his contributions to this forum are
always well spoken and very "on topic" in
my opinon.

I'm proud to call Herb a friend....and now
you know "Herb who"

It didn't take me too long after getting on the Forum to first realize who Herb was and shortly there after, WHAT he was !! That is why I felt completely secure in sending a lot of my old books and letters to him. I knew he liked things like that but moreover; I knew they would be in the best of hands. This thread and the Friends entry really make the point better that I ever could. Somebody once asked in a Thread: Are all steel players, GOOD GUYS ??

YES !!

Best Regards, Paul

Although I read it every day, I don't post on the forum very often for I don't feel I have much of value to say. However, I would like to jump in on this thread and thank Herb for his contributions to this forum. Herb, you'll never know how much your contributions mean to struggling beginners such as myself. If I had to pick a favorite poster on the forum, it would be you. You're knowledge of the steel guitar and it's history are of plethoric proportions.

My best wishes to you.

Respectfully,

The “Herbster” is probably one of the one of the most knowledgeable people in reference to a steel guitar that we have here on the forum. He first befriended me in the early 1970’s in Los Angeles, CA where we both happened to have a mutual friend that introduced us. I was out there in the radio business, and Herb had just ended a stint playing for Linda Ronstadt I believe.

I was just getting back into playing steel after a layoff of several years. Herb was always there with helpful advice, answering questions, and occasionally would say something like…” You know B., that was really WEIRD, but I liked that! Show me that again.” I would, he would shake his head and think, “I don’t know if this guy will EVER figure the instrument out…but he is different!”

30 years after the fact, when this guy speaks I ALWAYS listen! We don’t always agree on the finer points of a discussion, but I consider him to be a good friend, a controversial adversary from time to time…and one HELL of a Steel Guitar Player!

Herb, although I've never met or even spoke to you, it's easy to deduce from your posts that besides being a talented musician you're also very intelligent and one of the "good guys". Continued success!

Well, there you go Herb. Your humble
attitude probably won't let you acknowledge
all this praise, but I guess seeing people
put it in writing only confirms what we
always knew...Your a great guy and true
supporter to many, many people...and
apparently, some you didn't know until this
deserving post!

Your bud in Ohio,

Jerry http://www.slidestation.com

Herb Steiner is a giant of the instrument and a class act whom everyone loves. I know that I do. Can't wait to see him in Dallas in March and at Scotty's in St.Louis!!
