Y'all were asking if Jimmy Day actually did play shows with Elvis in the early days. The answer is YES...several times in 1955. The first time may have been March 4, '55 at DeKalb, TX. There is a new book out entitled ELVIS IN TEXAS by Lori Torrance that has pictures from this show plus a couple of others w/Jimmy.

About 8 years ago there was a steel guitar show in Hammond, LA, sponsored by the Cush
Case folks. I was invited to lead the Sunday morning worship service. Jimmy Day
played steel in that service. He gave me a
black and white picture of Elvis and Jimmy
was standing by him playing steel guitar.
Later I gave the picture to the Garners at
Music City Instruments in Magee, MS. I
assume it is on display there.

Jimmy told me he could have been a memeber of Elvis' backup band with Scotty Moore and Bill Black, but turned down the opportunity because he felt Elvis was going to flop.

He admitted he was wrong.

Author Lori Torrance?

A small note:
It's the basic belief that Torrance basically tried to steal the book from original author/researcher Stanley Oberst,
who was downgraded to a "with" credit on the
cover, despite the fact that it was his concept and draft that got the whole thing rolling in the first place.
Lori went on to copyright the book in her name, replaced Stanley's introduction and thank-you's (with her own..all to her own family and friends), and in some cases misspelled the names of other historians and researchers who contributed.
Stanley got a lawyer on the case and the book now goes out now with a flyer explaining the little mix-up in the author credits, etc. That's a nice reward for Stanley's four years of research!

There was a slagging match on Amazon! between supportors of Lori and various writers and historians who knew about this project and were stunned at the new credits on it's release.

Yeah, the "text" is a pathetic joke, she has no idea who Jimmy Day is, for one thing. If you ignore the text you won't miss anything...but the photos speak for themselves.

It's not the first time a project has been highjacked, probably won't be the last, but I would like to see those pics!
