Saw Johnny tonight on the Oprey. Great tone on his Zum as usual. I didn't know Zum made Laquer bodies.

Being a steel player, I thought Johnny's solo was the very BEST OF THE SHOW !!!!!!!
His Zum sounded wonderful !! ***

I taped the Opry tonight as I was in Westfork, Ar. playing our Little O' Oprey and I am glad I did. Johnny burned it up on Connie's song for sure. Great playing Johnny. I loved it!

If you think Mr. Cox's All wood Zum is nice(which it surely is); you should see and hear Mr. John Hughey's...all wood D-10 (yeah that's right wood necks too like a real steel is supposed to be)>absolutely beautiful Zum Steel. I saw and heard John's Zum down on Broadway when I was there last; and it is super great. Yes Bruce Zumstead has out done himself on these two Zums. Hell he should build them all like that; then he'd really be on to something......

Jonny Cox with Mrs Marty...AWSOME. I've been saying that foryears. He's soooo fast....Joan can't close her eyes when it's clean up time after dinner.....all that I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it was awesome! Concerning the Johnny's Zum Steel and John Hughey's Zum Steel, John Highey is scheduled to be in Saluda SC in Feb , perhaps that will be the guitar he plays, I look forward to it.

tb, were you referring to "Making Believe", the song the Whites did on the 2nd show? That was Steve Wilkerson,a monster steel and guitar player.

You folks will have to check out Johnny's new triple-neck Zumsteel pedal steel.

Johnny Cox is a masterful steel-player and Bruce Zumsteg is a master-craftsman as a builder who can do just about anything a customer asks for. The two of them make for quite a team. I myself have owned several of Bruce's guitars since '83.

Johnny also has a good sense of humor... in '77 I believe it was, he was working for Cal Smith and I was with Johnny Russell if I'm not mistaken at the time. We did a show in NJ and our bus had problems so we sent some of our stuff back to Nashville on Cal's bus, including my two LTD 400s. Johnny had been joking with me at the show that I should swap my LTDs with him for his Session 400s because the LTDs were smaller and nicer to carry. When we got back to Nashville I went over to Cal's driver's house to retrieve my LTDs off the bus only to find Johnny's Sessions sitting in the bin where my LTDs had been !! After some cussin' in disbelief that Johnny really had done the switch, the driver walked me into his garage and pointed to my amps, laughed and said, "we got ya Tiny." Johnny's a class act and a great player.

By the years end, I will be the proud owner of a laquer Zoom. Unlike John's and Johnny's, mine will have aluminium necks. I'm not going to elaborate on it, you'll just have to wait and see this beauty. Bruce is going to make it an eye stopper! Not prettier than the above mentioned, just different.

Ricky, you mean some one is make real steel guitars again. Wood necks and all. I guess MSA was the last company to make a real steel guitar. Wood necks , silk screened fret board, laquer finish. If ZUM will silk screen their fret board they may be on to something.

Well Bruce is dang good and he did a dang good job on John's Pedal Steel.
But the only person I know doing exactly what you discribed(and I'll have to agree...on it being real and all wood and silk screened)...is the one and only "Ed Fulawka".........and you will soon see my new Fulawka and see for yourself that a real pedal steel can be built in todays modern society.....but again I'll have to say that Mr. Bruce Zumstead went all out on Hughey's pedal steel......man I can still see it in my mind........AWESOME!!! Oh and I've seen Mr. Cox's was a double but now single and soon to be a double All WOOD ZUM up close and personal......and it is "ALL THAT" and more....sounds great too.....but look at the player playing it......GENIOUS!!!
