"Cimarron"
Try looking it up under Johnny Western, seems to me that he may be the writer.

Johnny Bond was the writer of both words and music for Cimmaron. You'll probably be able to find it in a Sons of the Pioneers song book if you can find one. Maybe on
www.roughstock.com/cowpie or one of the song sites. I remember this song was played almost bluegrass tempo but the lyrics were sung ballad like. The first words "Cimmarron roll on" stretched out over about 8 bars! The best I can recall is the words went something like this:
CIMMARRON ROLL ON,
TO MY LONELY SONG.
CARRY ME AWAY,
FROM THE SKIES OF GRAY.
THOUGH I'M FEELIN' BLUE,
I'LL ROLL ON WITH YOU.
TO MY LONELY SONG,
CIMMARRON ROLL ON.
Or something like that!!!!!!

Jerry had most of it correct.
The next to last line is,
To the Ocean Blue.

Yeah, Jerry's right, it was Johnny Bond of course. Did anyone find the words on Cowpie, it seems like it should be there but I don't see it.
Drifting a little here, didn't Johnny Bond, Noel Boggs, and maybe Margaret Whiting (does that sound right?) do a trio thing back there in the late 1940's or early 1950's? Sometime in Noel's career sandwiched between Bob Wills and the many other good gigs Noel had. I'm sure that Johnny and Noel worked together anyway. I've got a #e// of a memory but unfortunately it ain't very long.

Tim, during the 40s, there was "The Jimmy Wakely Trio" which consisted of Jimmy, Johnny Bond and an unknown 3rd part of the trio that did this song and they did a "Harmony Yodel" at the end of the song that was similar to the Roy Rogers and the "Sons of the Pioneers". They also did some bit parts for Republic's "B" westerns when musical groups were used. This of course preceded Jimmy Wakely's rise to stardom as a "B Western" star in his own right.

Wow! These names sure do bring back a lot of great memories of the good ol' days in Los Angeles. Jimmy Wakely had a TV at one time and Johnny Bond guested now and then. Also there used to be a show on at 6 PM on Saturday night called "Melody Ranch" which was the name of Gene Autry's old show. It was on Channel 5, KTLA which was owned by Gene. The show was hosted by my old boss Billy Mize and featured the Carl Cotner band. Johnny Bond was a regular each week and they featured some of the greatest music you ever heard. I can't remember who the steel players were but I remember they featured Roy Lanham on guitar for a while and Al Bruno, and then some short guy who's name I can't remember.
I remember a show at Knott's Berry Farm in the John Wayne Theater which Billy was on and it featured Noel Boggs in the band playing (believe it or not) Fender double 10 pedal guitar standing up. This wasn't too long before Noel's death. I don't think I'd ever heard of him playing a pedal guitar before that. Also, Billy Mize used to play a Fender 1000 double 8 standing up at the Foothill Club years ago. Also Al Petty went by the name of Al Perry for a while in LA and fronted his own band playing a Fender 1000 standing up. Has anyone ever tried that?
