has anybody heard Paul Franklin's "The Christmas Collection", which is the forum CD of the Month for December?

I'm about to place an order for several copies (Christmas gifts), and just wanted to hear how great it is before I order.

IT IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!
It is really arranged, and is not build up by showing of freaky solo's and riffs, but real music. Shure it shows all the virtuosity from the master, but it all serves the songs and arrangements.
A must!

If you got to ask and have any doubts then don't buy it. Leave the copy for someone that knows without question what this man puts into everything that his name goes on.

It's really good. The standouts for me are "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," which manages to sound both melancholy and hopeful at the same time, and "What Child is This," which starts out as "Greensleeves" and ends up as a musical meditation on the meaning of the holiday. He's playing notes but I hear them as a kind of dialogue - it's as if he's speaking through the instrument. Truly remarkable.

Too late! I already ordered 4 copies.

I didn't have any doubts, I just wanted to hear how great it was!

And comments like the last message.

Is it steel guitar solo only? Or are their other instruments involved?

It was a wonderful surprise for me. I had ordered several of Paul's courses on CD and his supplier had fallen behind on production, so it took a couple of months for me to receive the discs. Paul sent me the Christmas disc for free and a nice note thanking me for my patience.

BELIEVE ME, it was worth the wait.

Oh yeah, the production:
It's pretty minimal, really spotlighting the steel. Gregg Galbraith plays acoustic and classical guitar on most tracks, some have percussion/drums, and some piano and string parts. "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" is solo and a very well done classical flavored arrangement. TWO THUMBS UP!!!!

You'll never hear Jingle Bells like this... It's a great CD and you've got a great idea giving it as a gift. It's something that your friends won't get duplicates of and they'll get it out every year at this time.

I wasn't as generous as you, but I did turn a couple of the "uninitiated" -- non-steelers -- on to it a couple of years back. They had to have it so I gave them the info.
