John Enwistle's 200+ guitars were sold at Sotheby's today ... not many bargains.
Two of the three steels fetched pretty big sums, including this ricky which I think is an all-metal,

This Gibson, which seems way over the odds (I love these things, though) http://search.sothebys.com/jsps/live/lot/LotDetail.jsp?sale_number=W03875&live_lot_id =143

and this fender, which went for a nice price considering its provenance http://search.sothebys.com/jsps/live/lot/LotDetail.jsp?sale_number=W03875&live_lot_id =144

A friend of mine just brought one of these Ricks over to me about a month ago. I believe he said he paid $100.00 for it. It needs a new set of keys and the nut has to be replaced. Otherwise it looks pretty good except that I don't know why it was finished entirely in the hammered gray enamel.

I think the Ric was over priced as was the Gibson. The Ric appears to be the grey student model which was nothing to write home about. The Gibson was just a plank of board...one of the cheapest Gibsons ever built IMO. The Fender was probably the best of the lot (?)

When you factor in all the debauchery that they were witness to, and the fact that John composed "My Wife" and "Boris the Spider" on them, I think the prices were, dare I say it.."A Bargan".

The Gibson looks like a skylark, and has some collectability because of its links to the Explorer/Flying V models.
