The C Pedal

Last week I went to see the band of one of our local players and forumites. This man is an outstanding singer and lead guitarist, but has only been playing steel a short time. I sat in with the band on his steel and found to my amazement that his C pedal is missing the E to F# change. (It raised the 5th string, butI never did figure out what else, if anything, it did.)

I consider thie whole step raise on the 4th string so essential that I have it on a knee lever in addition to the C pedal. I can't imagine not having it, and I felt truly handicapped playing this man's guitar because it didn't have it.

I'd like to know. Does everybody else use the C pedal as extensively as I do? Is there anybody else who is missing this essential change?

I use it a lot especially in combination with the E to Eb lever, and for rock scales 2 back from the no pedal position (thanks to Joe Wright)

Hey Mike I was reading a thread recently where some guys were saying they used to only use that change on a knee lever. Like you, I have it on the pedal and a "dedicated" knee lever for the (I guess you call it) "West Coast" stuff. I don't know if thats' what you call what I do with it. I just know that I like the sounds in combination with AB pedals down as well as the other obvious uses for the 4th string raise 1 whole tone. I can't imagine trying to play a job without it. Right now, I have the E to F# on a knee lever, and my "C" pedal is not pulling the E string. Sometimes I hook it up, but to me the knee lever is more useful.

This is in the wrong section, Mike. I'm moving it to "Pedal Steel".<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Bobby Lee on 19 November 2001 at 05:05 PM.]</p></FONT>
