As I'll be covering the show for the PSGA newsletter and taking photos, I hope to be able to post them here with some comentary.
So,.....keep your eyes on this thread. In the meanwhile, anybody know who this is? Anyone want to take a stab at it?

it is indeed Jody Carver. Playing his Quad 8 Fender Stringmaster at a PSGA show in Armonk NY, I believe, some years back. Notice his LEFT foot on the vol/tone pedal... the picture is NOT reversed.

and it's Norwalk Connecticut....not California

Ok, here we go......here are some of the players. I can't post everyone at this time because the uploads are slow.

Dick Meis - switches back & forth, equally adept on both

Bob Hoffnar - shows us that pedal steel has no boundries

Doug Beaumer - excellent player & technician

Joe Wright is a great guy and a terrific intructor. I was fortunate to be able to take a lesson from him. He has a dynamic new teaching method called "LEARN TO PLAY THIS THING OR ELSE!!!!"

No more Mr. Wright guy!

same "embalmer".

Only a few things have changed like my tone
control,,,,same strings,,,same guitar,,,everything else the same,,,cept I had to meet up with a clown like you.

Oh yeah I got a haircut since then,,,,take a close look,, its the hair of the "right side"

Jody, I got that picture off the wall of the post office. It was next to the one of the guy with the beard and turban.

Get off that computer and get in your car. The show starts in 3 hours. Put down that coffee, you'll be making too many stops along the way.....

Bob Maikel told me that if you misbehave, you will be thrown in steel guitar prison, like Hiro here. Emmons set up!

Well, another great show about to happen today. As they say "film at 11".

Jody, you sure are connected. What a party we had here last night. Thanks for sending those women over. I better get rid of all these empty prune juice containers before I check out of this joint.....

Some new faces were present on Sunday.

Jon Graboff playing sweetly

"Jimbeaux" Master of Acceptable tone...NOT!
Actually, Jim's tone is not at all acceptable
.....it's exceptional

Jeff De Maio - that Emmons tone

The other De Maio's...dad Nick, brother Nick

What a great show!!

I really want to thank Bob Maickel, Mike Gross, and all the rest of the people who put on this fine show every year.

I think that everyone was at the top of their game. It was a wonderful lineup and those whom I'd seen before more than lived up to my expectations and the ones that were
new to me were great to hear as well.

I was sorry that I missed Bob Hoffnar's set. My buddy that always goes to these things with me overslept and we didn't get to the show until about 12:30.

Everybody knows how great the greats are, so I won't comment on them other than to say that's why they're well known.

I will say that John Hughey's new Zum is about as good looking as it sounds. I like the cross, by the way.

Jerry Brightman was fantastic. He not only rips up and down the fretboard with some fine chicken' picken' but he's a real personable guy as well. And no, Jerry, you don't talk to much. People at these shows love to hear the behind the scenes stories.

Jon Graboff was another new face who blew me away. He played a beautiful old Sho~Bud and played very cleanly and got a terrific tone out of it. And he also referenced one my personal idols, Tommy Hannum. I wish Tommy would come play at some of these shows.

John Widgren and his group were another of the many highlights of the show. It's really amazing how much great country comes out of the NYC area. You could knock me over with a feather!

And also from the that area is Jeff DeMaio, treasurer of the PSGA. If he watches the PSGA budget as well as he plays that old P/P Emmons, our treasury must be in great shape. Jeff gets an absolutely wonderful tone. It sounds exactly the way I like to hear a steel sound. It's not harsh, it's not muddy. You can hear every note and it's just that classic steel tone. A lot like that guy who plays with the Everly Brothers. Jeff has worked up a lot of twin stuff with his six-string buddy, Scott Tyler and that's most enjoyable and impressive as well.

Those are some of the things that struck me. I'll cut if off at this point so others can comment. But by no means have I anywhere near covered the great stuff that was at that show.

I drove five hours to get there and it was well worth it!

Hi Rick....nice meeting you at Norwalk.
In addition to what you said, I have to say Bob Hoffnar's performance was incredible!
I never thought I would hear techno/new age/experimental/performance art at a PSGA convention!!
Thanks to Bob Maickel for having a progressive attitude toward steel by inviting him and thanks to Bob Hoffnar for the guts to bring this music to an admittingly conservative audience.

P.S.-Bob Maickel put up with my own experimentations as well, in past PSGA shows... thanks Bob.
