What kind of lap steel was Martina McBrides steel player playing on the Opry tonight? Sounded like it was tuned to an "E" open.

That's Wayne Dahl, great guy, great player on a Melobar lap steel in a holder(guitar-shaped) designed by Ted Smith. The bad news is, all but just a couple of performances on the show were played to track, so it wasn't live. Only the vocals are live. It looked like a Tele-Rat(lap steel w/telecaster pickup setup). I use one of these, you saw Paul Franklin use one on 'The Players', and they just sound great.
Oops, sorry, I just actually read the post....I thought you meant the CMA's. I watched the fights, and missed the Opry show. My bad.
But, if he played a lap steel, it was a Melobar built by Ted Smith.
[This message was edited by Jeff Peterson on 10 November 2001 at 09:28 PM.]

Kenny,
The tele rat is tuned to open "D"
Starting from low to high, the notes are:
D,A,D,F#,A,D
I really like the sound of this guitar-tone with alot of sustain. Ted also makes killer sounding dobro's.
Wayne.
