Junior Knight - Texas Steelman - Anybody heard it?

Post by Bill Fulbright »

I just ordered this CD from Bob, but have not heard it yet.

Has anyone heard it and have anything to say about it?

I remember going out just to hear Junior play with Dewey Groom at the Longhorn in Dallas during the early 80's on the nights I wasn't playing, and he was simply amazing then. Truly an inspiration.

I bought this CD based on that. I am pretty sure it should be real good.

Yes, I have heard it. Jr. was in Tulsa last Monday and I bought a copy from him. You will not sorry you bought it. I don't think he knows how to make a bad record. I first heard him on that same show you talked about and I was knocked down by his playing. He is better now. He made this recording in his own studio and played most of the parts.

He was fantastic at St. Louis a year or two back. I think it was 2000 that I saw him, perhaps 1999.

I've been noticing the ad here on the Forum. Looks like something I should have, 'cause I like that country E9th stuff. Image

Not only is Junior Knight one of the great contemporary steelers, but some may not know that he is also a very impressive guitar player! www.genejones.com
[This message was edited by Gene Jones on 10 November 2001 at 03:41 AM.]

I bought a copy in St Louis and like it very much. I had previously bought several of his tapes from Tom Bradshaw and so was looking forward to hearing the first CD.

Jr. Knight is a steel players - steel player. He has a tone that is second to none, very soulful, and touch that is incredible. A true Texas gentlemen. He also conducts one of the most informative steel clinics anywhere! He was awesome in the Tulsa area, last Monday evening. All his albums are top notch.

Well, I guess my hunch was right.... and my memory serves me well. Jr. was the best I had ever had the pleasure of hearing live then.

I am looking forward to receiving the CD for sure!

Back in the 80's I was trying to dabble in steel guitar, because I had borrowed an Emmons LDG for about 6 months. Charlie Norris was a saint for putting up with me!! I was grateful to have any time I could get, and to show up at his Sunday afternoon jams. Thanks again, Charlie.
