Who was the steel player?
I heard a cool old Tennesse Ernie Ford tune called Catfish Boogie the other day that had a great non-pedal steel solo. Who knows who that was?
[This message was edited by Frank Parish on 29 October 2001 at 04:34 AM.]

He gets my vote too !! I still have a song TEF did that was a lost "B" side. It was a tear jerker titled; "Put Your Arms Around Me" and there was a thought in there about being cold. Speedy actually made you feel that emotion with his bar shivers and while I can't bring back any lyrics or melodies from it, I still have it stored back there in my head for what ever reasons.

Tennesse Ernie was really hot! I got one of the videos from Mike Ihde that's got Speedy playing on there. I never put the two together but that's probably right. I haven't heard any of the retro bands do this stuff yet around here. If I were going to play retro, this stuff would have to be at the top of the list.

Hi Frank, I just emailed Speedy today and asked him the question directly??? He said yes it was him playing on that record, he was playing his Bigsby and not using the pedals. It was recorded at Capitol Records in Hollywood, he did not remember the exact year but he said it was the early 50's. I hope this clears this up for you. Take care, Red Kilby 69rtse@home.com <<<<<<<<<<.
