Steel Guitar shows and such in Florida

I have a friend who is leaving next week for Florida. He will be living in the Ft. Myers area, and would like to know if there is going to be any steel guitar shows or local bands featuring steel in that area. I am sure that he would be willing to travel to some locations, provided he knows of the shows locations. Any information is helpful.
Thanks, Dennis

Dennis, There is the Fort Meade Jamboree Festival, which includes a Steel Guitar Jam,
on Saturday, November 10. It is to be held at the Fort Meade Outdoor Recreational Area, which is south of the Winter Haven and Bartow area.
on the West Side of Florida. It's probably about a 2 hour drive from Ft. Myers.
The details are on their web site:

In February or March there is the Tampa Steel show which usually brings John Hughey and Herbie Wallace to town and it's held right next door to Tampa in Plant City's Holiday inn Ballroom. It's a two day affair(put on by the Shriners) that features a seminar and great Steel Guitar. Watch for announcements on the Forum. There ain't a bad seat in the house.

Joe, from what I hear there is some question whether the Plant City show will go this year. Nothing definate either way but I got this from a friend of Haywood Henson.

Jack, I get the same feeling. As Haywood and I discussed last year at the show, I was scheduled to play and handle the sound, but I have had no word from Haywood.
It was a great little show, and I sincerely hope he can make it happen again.

By the way, the Portwood brothers had 3 shows in Jacksonville and while each was a great show, hardly anyone attended, so I doubt there will be another one.

I heard that about the Jax shows too. That's too bad, but not everyone can go to all the shows. I had to choose between the Jax and the Plant City show. I opted for the Plant City as it was closer.
Once I retired the $$$ are a lot different (less) than when I was working.

I have tried to contact Haywood Henson to find out about the show, but I haven't heard back from him, so I really don't know either.
