Mike Sweeney's new CD

I have listened to Mike Sweeney's new CD "Pure and Simple Country" for about the upteenth time. It's hard to get tired of such beautiful work. The touch, tone, ideas, technique, execution, everything seems to be right on the money. It's made up of mostly pure country standards, with the exception of "Red is the Rose" and "Shenandoah." My favorite is the old Dottie West tune "Paper Mansions." I like the CD because I can hear so many of my heroes; Lloyd, Hal, Weldon, John Hughey, Jimmy Day, Buddy, and people I can't think of right at this moment. Mike Sweeney comes through the entire thing, though. One of my very favorite fiddlers plays on it. His name is Jim Unger. He has never gotten the credit he so richly deserves either. Randy Mason, one of the better drummers in the business, also plays on it, as well as a cast of equally capable players. Mike, you have definately done your homework, and done it exceptionally well, I might add. Anyone who likes pure hard core Country pedal steel guitar will really enjoy this CD.

Mike's new CD just arrived and it is really a nice selection of "Pure Country" tunes. Nothing too fancy , nothing too loud , just some great "easy listening"

This is a really great piece of work from a genuinely fine player. Clean, well executed, wonderful tone, and the album is definitely playable from start to finish...without skipping. Good effort Mike, and I wish you all the luck.....although you should have kept the cover picture with the earrings and tights....you little devil!

Jeff,
I would have but you wouldn't give me my fishnet stockings back! By the way, you look silly with your leg hair sticking out of them. Thanks for the kind words. See you later!

Bob, Is that the same Jim Unger from Martinsburg, W.Va. He used to play with Billy "Crash" Craddock. I haven't see him in 20 years. Used to work with his dad, who also is a great fiddle player. Ifyou see him, tell him all the good ole boys from W.Va. say hi.

Robert, Yes that is the same Jim Unger. I don't think the world is ready for more than that lol. Jim is absolutely the best fiddle player I've ever heard and I'm proud to call him my friend. Mike Sweeney
