John Hartford video

I recently took up fiddle, and got a fiddle instruction tape by John Hartford. The tape was recorded in 1997 by Fiddler Magazine.
John is seated with his fiddle at his desk in his office, relaxed and off-the-cuff. He talks and rambles on about fiddle styles, technique and players. A consummate student, teacher and player.
I was suprised when he started talking about Buddy Emmons and his phrasing of notes. Buddy is referenced continually throughout the tape. It's obvious that John Hartford really admired and studied The E's playing.
If you like John Hartford at all, I recommend the tape. A great mix of music,
stories, and wit, delivered by a giant of a musician.
cheers,
Drew Howard

John perhaps influenced his son, too. His son
was with Buddy Emmons in the band behind the

Back in the early 70's both John & Buddy would play on Tuesday nights at the Sundance Saloon in Calabasas. Don Everly would front the band most nights.

Buddy's solo on John Hartfords Gentle on my Mind.A killer.Buddy's playing on this and many small lable projects is what kept me interested in the so called dry period.(1975 till the early 80's).
Also I must add, a young Paul Franklin was doing some great playing with Jerry Reed.A little later he cut a live LP with Mel Tillis that knocked me out.-------bb

I think Buddy and John had a mutual appreciation society going between them. They each worked of of what the other was doing. They were really good friends.
