Hi Folks.
This past weekend was a highlight in my career as a steel guitar player. Yesterday, August 19th, I had the opportunity to participate in the Summer Pick-Nic in Colborne, Ontario, sponsored by Steel Guitars Of Canada (Al Brisco). Visiting the event was Mr. Dewitt "Scotty" Scott, world renowned steel guitar player and founder of The International Steel Guitar Convention, St. Louis, Missouri. I had the privilege to pick along side "Scotty" and Bob Taillefer. Well what an experience this was for me! Scotty played so sweet and his tones were amazing and Bob caught your ear with his hot licks. I feel so honored to have had this opportunity. Scotty's convention is being held on Labour Day weekend and I only wish that I was going to be there!
I also want to say thanks to Al Brisco who has been a leader both in Steel Guitar and Country music here in Canada. Al has set the standard for most of us pickers here in Canada. We are proud that Al Brisco, Bob Taillefer and Doug Johnson are going down to St. Louis to represent Canada. Please do say hello to them for me.. Thanks Paul Evans..
PS: It was nice to see Rebel (Graham Reid) at yesterdays event. Thanks Graham for hosting

If it wasn't for Scotty, I would not be in steel guitar today. I owe the man more than I can say ! When I was at the bottom, he pulled me up and did it in a way that has lasted for over 35 years. There are not enough Thank Yous in the world to send him !!
If someone ever does the same for you, you will never forget it.

Gene,,,,AMEN to that,,,,we both share the same feeling about many things,,,,if I were a gal I would have married you. But I cant cook...Scotty is a fine gentleman....proud to call him my friend and you as well Gene.

| Scotty is TRULY one of the GREATEST players and supporters of the steel guitar EVER!! His current desire to play and advance the lap steel is a testament to his passion. To have the opportunity to pick along side one of the great steel guitar HOF members is something memorable indeed! |

Jerry GARCIA may be the greatest steel player that ever lived but Scotty has to be right up there with him! And don't ever forget the great Santo and Johnny, Doug Danmore, Chuck Berry, Remember "Deep Feelin"?
The worlds greatest instrumental? Yes, That was Chuck Berry,A great steelest! We have a lot of truly great steelers to praise.
When are we gonna' see a girl in the SGHOF?

Well I have met Scotty on three or four occassions when he has been here and found him to be a really nice guy. He has also answered snail mail things I have wrote to him about where to go when I was in America, and the last time I saw him here we leaned on the bar,had a beer and talked about each others families.....dont think we got round to talking steel !!!!!!

When Scotty was inucted into the hall of fame, at the ceremony Buddy Emmons said that it wasn't the number of hot licks you could play that was important, it was how many hearts and lives you touched.
Scotty has brought more happiness to more people than anybody else I can think of. Some of the happiest moments of my life were spent at the convention, and I know I'm not alone in this. He is truly a great man. Not a great steel guitar player (although he ain't bad in that department either) but a great human being, who deserves recognition not for what he has done for the steel guitar, but what he has done for people. |

| Scotty is a good old down home boy IMHO. But under that "ah shucks" is a smart business man who treats everyone he deals with in a fair and friendly manner. We need more "Scotty's" in this world. |

| When I attended the '76 convention, I went back to Scotty's office after doing some bar hopping with him. He played me some incredible personal tapes he had collected over the years of some of the greats and genuinely spent some serious time with me. It's in my memory banks forever. |

In 1972 I had a crossover model ShoBud that I wanted to trade for a new guitar. I drove down to Scotty's store in St Louis and browsed until I picked out a new MSA D-10. Scotty gave me a very good trade in price and I wrote him a check for the balance. He said, "I'll need to go to the bank to clear it" (good business practice since I was from out of town and a young beginning player at the time). So we dropped the check off at his bank and while waiting for it to clear, he took me out to his favorite steak house for dinner. I'm sure he wouldn't remember me, because he's probably done this with many steel players under the same circumstances.
He's truely kind, considerate and bends over backwards to promote the steel guitar and the players. He's also the best traditional style non pedal player at any of the steel shows/conventions. It's a dying art. Keep it going Scotty!
