Well, I was watching Peruvian TV and saw a female Latin singer with a great band, and lo and behold right behind her was a guy playing lap steel.

Latin Pop music with a Lap Steel. Sounded perfect. Great integration of the sound in a very contemporary / alternative pop sound.

I have been here two weeks, have one more to go.

I went out tonight and bought a Charango - the soprano guitar heard in Peruvian / Bolivian Folk music also known as a Vihuela Piquena. It sounds so fine.

Can't wait to get home and hit the steel again!!!

I always thought that a non pedal steel would sound great in a Merengue band.....

or with a Samba band. or an Andean flute/charango band!

This was like US pop alternative and the guy was using the lap steel to create harmonics/chimes and it was so fine.

I wonder if the singer was Zelia Duncan of Brazil. Her producer, Christiaan Oyens, played lap steel on several cuts on her CD "Acesso" (WEA 398423637-2).
http://www.zeliaduncan.com.br is her web site

Brad,

It could very well be her and him. He was a blonde guy with a beard playing right behind her in this video. I never caught the name, just the music. Very neat concept.

I will check out the website and get back to you.
