James Brown a student of mine brought me a video tape some time ago featuring Hawaiian Music and Mr. Byrd. He purchased it from Forumite Mike Ihde.
One of the songs on the tape is a vocal and caught my ear,,,, so much so that I decided to make an instrumental of the beautifull melody. Jeff Au Hoy researched the name for me which was not mentiond on the video and
was also able to provide the words...not only in english but Hawaiian also. Thank you Jeff.
You can find the MP3 and some tab on my site, Song #43. http://www.clictab.com/royt/tabmenu.htm
As a passing note it is amazing how the Internet brings people together from all over the world making things happen which otherwise would not be possible.
Waiulu is one small example.

Allot of 3rds and 6th intervals, that's a great idea to check out Hawaiian vocal lines. Thanks Roy... |

WAIULU was really made famous by the Hui Ohana Trio about 20 years ago. The amazing thing I'll always remember about that song, my wife and I were in Papette, (Tahiti) browsing through a music store when I heard the beautiful strains of that lovely song coming from the back of the store. I realized it wasn't a recording, went back to check it out, and there they were...the Hui Ohana Trio! I asked if they would sing it again and taped it so I could remember that beautiful melody. To be effective, it must be played/sung very slowly with lots of feeling. Roy, you did a super job on it!...(as usual) |
