I was wondering how many of you have your volume pedal set from completely off to whatever level the full pedal would take it. When your in the off position, is it completely off? My Emmons pedal still has some volume when it is in a heel down position, and I wondered if it should be completely off..Thanks guys...John Lindley

I can't speak for your pedal but my Goodrich is completly off whe in the heel down position. The other models I used before this were the same.

Ditto what Gary said.....heel down means no sound!

It's also noteworthy that the Hilton pedal, which has received a lot of attention lately, has two adjustment screws on the underside. One sets the overall output volume and the other sets the point where you begin to hear sound. Instead of having to move the string on the post to set the 'start point', you just turn a little adjustment screw. I think this is a very useful feature.

And, yes, I set mine where 'heel down' is completely off.

If you adjust your pedal so that there is no sound, you will probably live to regret it. You will notice that your tone sucks. Go on, try it, and please report back your findings. I always have a fair amount of volume when my pedal is backed right off.

If you can remove the pulley and mount it in a lathe or drill, you can use a file to make the diameter smaller, allowing you full travel of the pot. I consider this a faulty design.

I set mine to full off. My Goodrich will have about 2K ohms left at "full" volume which is not enough to worry about.

When I was doing amp repair, I would set all the volume pedals full off, and most wanted it set that way.

I think it is mostly a matter of preference.I seem to get a better tone by having my volume pedal open the pot wide open. I have a small amount of sound when it is heel down, but it don't bother me.
One thing the newer players need to keep in mind, you don't block with the volume pedal. I like to pratice some at least once a week with no volume pedal, just push it down halfway and remove my foot.
The same as I enjoy playing a little with no pedals or knees, normally simple songs, but still keeping the non-pedal ability. --- Just my 2 cents worth !!

I used to have a little volume when the pedal was full back, but since I've had the Hilton I find I prefer it heel back full off.
