Hi y'all,

I *finally* got this cd, (backordered for months), and it is fantastic! Who can tell me something about Hui Ohana? And who can tell me when the sessions were recorded, including the Jerry Byrd tracks? I like how they shuffle between the two artists throughout the cd, nice listening...

Thanks for any info,

Carter

That was a compilation album ... featuring the "two kinds" of "Hawaiian Guitar" ...

Slack Key ... Hui Ohana (Led Kaapana, Ned Kaapana, Dennis Pavao) & Steel Guitar ... Jerry Byrd.

The JB tracks were taken from the "Steel Guitar Hawaiian Style" album.

I may be wrong ... but I think it was the first time JB apperared on that "New Fangled" medium ... Compact Disc

Please list the tunes Jerry Byrd has on this CD. Does he play anything during the other artist's cuts? Just need to know these things.

I agree ... I got it when it was first released ... and it "turned me on" to slack key guitar.

I bought it for the JB tracks .. only to find out they were from his other album ... but boy was I glad I did ... I love slack key ... gets rid of my headaches every time

Silver Strings features violins, etc accompaning Hui Ohana ... unusual for slack key, but very beautiful ... my wifes all time favorite.

Hilo March and Kilima Waltz are the only recordings I own that feature JB on a National Tricone ... I wish he would have done more with one ....

Rick you can STOP, LOOK & LISTEN to JB on a TriCone........if you'd open that Marty Robbins Hawaiian video.

SILVER STRINGS that you mention.....what album is that on of Jerry's. I don't believe I've ever heard it!

Rick, you've got to see the video Ray mentioned! The performances are terrific, but Jerry's 'choice' of headgear is a once in a lifetime occurance, not quite a feathered turban, but.... Unfortunatly for JB, it was captured for the ages for us all to enjoy, and to learn what and what NOT to do for the camera.
