Did Jimmy ever play non-pedal?

I only knew of him as pedal player...and one of the BEST, too! His soloing on Johnny Bush's Farewell Party is spectacular....

Best of all, Ricky Davis has it tabbed out with the original sound file.

Many mahalos to Ricky for sharing his love of steel guitar with us. His websites are full of wonderful information and music...one of the best sites out there!

Jimmy's first 45 "Rippin' Out/Blue Wind was with a non pedal, as well as the backing job behind Floyd Cramer's "Fancy Pants" and all the sideman work prior to -55.

Here's a link to my non-pedal tab for Blue Wind - based on Buddy Emmons' recording:

I was told that Jimmy was the Steeler on Faron Young's "Goin' Steady" which featured a non pedal steel. I also have been told he took lessons from Jerry Byrd. FWIW...

kd...and the beat goes on...
