1. Who played steel on the Bing Crosby version?

2. Did Jerry Byrd do a Christmas record?

3. Anyone know of any other Hawaiian-steel guitar Christmas instrumental cds?...

If we're gonna listen to christmas music, I may as well con th efamily into listening to steel guitar........

1) Dick McIntyre.
2) Yes, "Christmas In Hawaii". Available on cassette through the link to CDs & Tapes above.
3) Lots of them. Do a search for "steel guitar Christmas" to find examples by Paul Franklin, Buddy Emmons, etc.

One of the BEST versions of "MELE KALIKIMAKA", (perhaps the very best), was done by "THE SURFERS", a great vocal quartette back in the late fifties. Most are gone now, however a few are still playing the Waikiki scene...one of whom is PAT SYLVA. But what makes this recording so great is the swinging style of JULES AH SEE on steel ! When you hear this recording, all others pale by comparison.

P.S. Just to set the record straight, Dick McIntire did not use the 'y' in his last name.

Dave: Two version of Mele Malikimaka are now available for your listening pleasure on the Jerry Byrd Fan Club Site; One is Jerry's solo instrumental and the other has a VOCAL.
Hope you'll enjoy......
