I just got my dobro today, and I got a few questions for you experienced players.

First, what's the best way to learn the fretboard. I mean as far as 2 note scales, or pockets or whatever. I know the G strings
like G open, then A 2nd fret B 4th, C 5th D 7th etc. Do I need to know and memorize the other strings as well, or is there an easier way, like learning 2 note scales and stuff like on the steel?

Also, is there an easy way, trick, shortcut to learning my minor chords? If not, no problem, I'll learn them I just thought it might be an easy way to learn and remember them. Thanks

Perhaps you'll find this little online tool helpful - Chord House - just 'tune' it to your tuning and choose the chords/scales you're looking for.

I got my first dobro about ten months ago, and the thing that I have found most useful in learning the fretboard is to arpegiate all the different chords.

To make it more musically interesting you can set up Band in a Box to play the chords you are working on, and you can improvise using the chord shapes.

Terry, I'd also recommend that you visit Rob Anderlik's website, he's got instructional mp3s, videos and tabs that may be of some help, plus interesting interviews with many dobro players (in the "Featured Artist" section).
