Starting today, several legitimate emails I've received - often replies to emails I have sent - has had "X-IMail-SPAM-Connection" inserted in front of the mail heading.

Can anybody explain what this is, and what effect it has (if any)? Where does this come from and why has it started now?
It made me worry that my email addresses all of a sudden are considered 'suspicious' or something out there in cyber space..

I use Thunderbird for my emails and have not activated any new functions besides the regular spam filter that's been active from day one.

Steinar:

I just did a quick google search for that exact term. Run the same search I did and you will get a couple of hundred hits.

It appears to be part of a spam filtering process, probably done by your ISP.

They may suspect that those messages are spam and it is their way of telling you about it. If they aren't spam, just ignore the header.

You may well be able to go to your ISPs web site and fiddle with your email configuration re "blacklists", "whitelists", etc.

My quick take is that it isn't harmful, but read some of the google hits and/or talk to your ISP.

Your answer may be found by reading your email headers and comparing the appropriate lines of code with the meanings explained on this page.
