Yesterday I sent an email to forum member Michael S. Hartz about his Pod XT in buy & Sell--I was too late but he was kind enough to reply to my email and inform me of where I stood in line--the way it should be done.
Today I receive in my "suspected spam" folder in my Earthlink web mail an internet pharmaceutical spam (I get these, stock tips and mortgage refinancing all the time, a dozen a day). What gets me is that the Subject Line was "Michael S. Hart" and an address @pobox.com--not Michael's address. Hart, not Hartz. But awfully close. Where did that come from??!!
What do I make of this 'coincidence'? It's not the first time I have been spammed with a word or name very similar to something I've recently been involved with and it spooks me, since it feels like someone is tapping into my system.
I scan regularly with AdAware, SpyBot S&D, A-squared, Spyware Blaster....... |

Sounds like just a coincidence to me. Just plain old SPAM. |

That is way too close to be a coincidence.
It sounds like Michael's computer might have an email Worm infection that appends his name to the subject line, and probably also the From line. You should advise him of this possibility so he can scan for vermine.

Jack, that's what I hoped, Wiz, that's what I feared (except that I feared some sort of penetration of my own system). I've written to Michael. Thanks. |

Jon
I have received the same thing & have
not replied to any add on the forum .
What I suspect is some of the BILLIONS
of FWD's people send are scavenged for
address . AND ! the address are all very
close to the same , as you reported .
They were trapped in the spam filter
at the server and deleted there . I to
was wondering about this .

Jon, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I haven't heard of such a thing involving using most of a person's name but it's pretty sneaky. I will immediately update my spyware blocker and antivirus program just in case. |

Thanks for the heads up Jon. All my e-mail is through my work which is a large fortune 500 company so I would assume that they have all sorts of filters and virus protection, but just in case I will update my spyware blocker and virus protection. |
