I really want to get an Ipod or some sort of MP3 player so I can download some old country tunes that are hard to find on CD.Iam just not sure how it all works.Iam fixing to get geared up to buy one by getting DSL.Iam currently running Windows 2000 on my laptop. Here's a few of my questions and you guys feel free to adlib with info that I may need to know and did'nt ask:
1.I want a user friendly brand of MP3 player,Iam not a total computer idiot, but Iam not Bill Gates either

2.Legally, how or where is the best way to get songs off the net ? I hear some people get them out of news groups ,is this legal ?

3.I mainly want to listen to the songs in my vehicle. How do I get the MP3 player to work with my stock radio/cd player in my 2005 Dodge truck ? Or can I ?

4.Is there a format to where I could take songs from the MP3 and copy to a CD so I could learn some licks on my steel with my CD player? Or would it be easier just to buy some external loud speakers for the MP3 player(Assuming they make those)to play along with ?

I hope I didnt let my ignorance hang out to bad here, haha

My wife & I each got an Ipod Shuffle for Christmas, and they're pretty easy to use. Basically it's a white stick the size of a pack of gum, and CD with the Itunes computer program you use to fill it up, and re-fill it when your're bored with your first set of selections.

When you do the original setup, you can choose MP3 as the preferred storage mode. You can take your own CD's and put them into your library, then move select tracks to the pod. Or you can download MP3 files from other sources, and put them in your library, etc. Haven't done it yet, but software will work "backwards" to burn a CD.

You can buy a little FM transmitter & charger for your truck for less than $50, that is powered by your 12V lighter outlet. Just like the old drive-in movies, set the tiny transmitter and your truck radio to the same frequency, and you hear the pod on your truck speakers.

I'm AARP qualified and new-technology resistant, but I didn't think it was all that hard once I got started.

go to shopping.yahoo.com to search MP3 players. Ipods tend to be a bit pricey compared to others.
LimeWire.com is the best p2p (person to person)website for downloading music. It is free.
You might consider getting an disc burner for your computer so you can make MP3 discs for back-up/storage, as well as listening to them on an MP3 player; most cars do NOT have MP3 capability.

Are we now promoting music piracy on the SGF?

BTW: P2P means Peer-To-Peer

Wade, my 15 year old grand-daughter tells me that her Sony Bean MP-3 player is better than most other brands of MP-3 players and she has compared them with kids she knows at school who have other brands of players.

You can listen to your MP-3 tunes on the ear buds while driving. The battery is rechargable and outlasts most of the other MP-3 players.

Ask some Teenagers in your area about MP-3 Players and see what they tell you.

The horizontal scroll bar makes reading posts more difficult.

Avoid it by linking long urls (such as the one above my post) to a word/s like this:

Sony Bean

I chose the Ipod over other Mp3 players becasue I could get larger capacity and I felt the Ipod's were the most user friendly. Easier to organize music, select what you want to hear, create playlists, etc.

You can use an FM trasmitter to listen to the Ipod in the truck, as was suggested (I believe having ear phones on while driving is NOT legal, at least in CA). If your truck has a tape deck, you can get a little cassette that has a 1/8 inch jack attached to it, that plugs into your Ipod. I get better sound quality that way. OR you can get a new stereo for your truck that has Ipod connectivity built in, with a special cable. These new car stereos have the ability to control your Ipod on the face of the stereo so you can just put your Ipod in the glove box.

Some of the newer vehicles now come with an 1/8 inch jack on the front. That would be the easiest solution.

If your home stereo has some open RCA jacks in the back, you can go to RadioShack and buy an adaptor that goes from your 1/8 inch stereo plug on the Ipod to RCA, and plug directly into your home stereo.

Since RadioShack sells Ipods the folks that work there should be able to help.

I have my entire music collection on my 40GB Ipod, with room to spare. In my next vehicle, I will probably install a stereo with integrated XM and Ipod.

I think WalMart.com has the cheapest downloads @ $0.89/song.
