Just received notice that Microsoft Antispyware (beta 1) has been updated to-- new name-- "Windows Defender" (beta 2). I've downloaded and am running initial run on my systems. Will inform subsequent to this first run. Here's the site for the new Windows Defender homepage. Free download:

The initial run found 3 more items than did the Microsoft Antispyware that I removed and replaced with the Windows Defender. The run was very smooth and didn't take that much time. Maybe MS has finally arrived with a program that is more satisfactory to the user.

One of the little tricks to be aware of for Windows Defender is that updates and new definitions are now provided thru the "Windows Update" facility, not thru a "definition file" download like was done with their Microsoft Antispyware program. At least that has been my recent experience.
