When did laptop computers suddenly evolve into "notebooks?" Does anyone really have big enough pockets to put these things into?

While the terms are used interchangably there is such a thing as a notebook computer, and it is different from a laptop computer. What I am referring to is sometimes marketed as a DeskNote computer.

Here is the definition of a DeskNote computer, taken from the Wikipedia:

Also referred to as a desknote computer, a computer that physically is the size of a notebook computer but is designed to function as a stationary unit, like a desktop computer. Desknotes save space because of their compact size and are typically somewhat larger than a notebook or laptop computer, both in keyboard and monitor size, but are not designed to be portable. Desknotes do not have battery capacity and, while they are portable, cannot be used for mobile computing.

The name comes from combining desktop with notebook (minus the battery).
