WMP is what plays Bobbe Seymour's steel radio show on my PC.

WMP never fails to hiccup, off and on, everytime I'm listening.

Sometimes it worse than other times.

I know Bobbe mentioned in the past that he was having transmitting problems, and I asked hime lately if they were indeed all corrected and he assured me they were.

I tried to get the station to come thru REALPLAYER, but, so far, this has failed. Not
putting the proper address in, or something.

Does anyone else have this streaming problem with WMP? Or is this just the nature of streaming?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, because this hiccuping is really annoying. So much so, I finally have enuff and turn it off.

Thanks all,

Chip

If you are using a dial-up connection that is normal to get the "buffering".

With a braodband, you shouldn't get it unless the server is overloaded. I listen to Mike Gross' Swingin West and normally there is no interruptions but there was two weeks ago and apparently it was a resource issue either at the server of the internet link as a friend reported the same thing. No problem with Mike last week.

RealPlayer will not work and it's really only good for RealAudio only. Actually, I don't even have it installed. There is a recent thread about media player problems and there is info there.

One other issue, if you have Quicktime installed, it has been known to interfere with some media. Uninstalling Quicktime is the only way to "fix" it if Quicktime is interferring.

Hi Jack,

I have Comcast broadband cable. I also have Quicktime installed as well. I think we discussed QT before about removing it, where a flag popped up and said it might interfere with other things if all remnants were removed.
I think I left it on because a lot of sound files on the Forum come thru QT. Not sure if I have a substitute for QT.

You mentioned a thread on media player - did you mean WMP, or all media players?

Thanks

Here's one thread. http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum12/HTML/002794.html

I don't recall any forum links that use QT. Most QT files you find on the net are video and many sites offer the videos or animation in other formats such as those compatible with the Windows Media Player. Most use standard MP3's however a few did use RealAudio (RealPlayer) files. I don't have RealPlayer on my PC either but what I miss not having it is nothing to be concerned about.

Well,
I went and removed both QT and RP, and so far Bobbe's broadcast hasn't hiccuped. Took all aspects out.

When you click on, for instance, b0b's "Oh Holy Night", you get this blank screen with a small "player" strip in the middle - which looks like QT. I guess it just looks like it, then.

Anyway, things seem to be better for now, and thanks once again Jack. The link you provided assured me to oust QT and RP.
