Quark question - Mac

I'm using Quark Express 5 for Mac.

I'm using the line path tool from the tool bar for my text. Every time I have to draw a line, I have to click on the tool button.

Does anyone know the command that keeps the line activated so that I don't have to keep jumping back & forth?

I haven't used XPress in ages, but I recall that "tool selection snapping off to the pointer" thing being a big thorn. Check out this pdf, it might help.
