Can't get the new version to load on my wifes Dell XP home)and it eventually takes me to yahoo which has that infernal beep like IE. What is wrong with those idiots? Don't they know that beep drives a person nutty?
The older versions of netscape are still loaded but they no longer work. Netscape 6.7 still works fine on my compuyer (Dell w/xp home)
Is there a fix? No mstter the browser I load, the beep is there.
Netscape 8 loads fine on my XP Home, Ken. No beep. And IE's part of the OS. If you're getting "beeps" trying to load it, you probably have some sort of system problem to correct. One idea I might try would be to put your WinXP install disc in the drive, then click Start, select Run, and type sfc /scannow in the box, and press Return. This will cause the computer to check the system files and correct any that may be corrupt or missing.
There's way too many things that can make a PC "beep" when it can't do what you ask it to, and not enough information upon which to base a guess, but, the best clue you provide is in your last comment. If you get error indications when you try to load any software, it's usually time to uninstall/reinstall the software.
As an aside, having numerous versions of the same software ("the older versions of Netscape") can sometimes cause problems. You might consider uninstalling all of those "older versions" except what you really expect to use just as a prophylactic measure - then, try to load what you need to and see what you've got at that point.
Unfortunately, even after one attempts to sanitize a system this way, sloppy uninstall code often results in undesired "leftover" files on the system, possibly wrong versions of files scattered around, and even undesirable registry entries. It can be a mess to fix short of manually deleting unwanted remnants.
Standard disclaimer applies; these suggestions are not intended to be an all-inclusive list of remedies to "beep"-related problems.
