If you are an SBC-Yahoo DSL customer and you are on an annual special rate, and your renewal date is approching, I advise you to phone your SBC DSL representative and ask for the best rate. You may be pleasantly surprised at the deal they may offer you.
Here's the skinny. I have had SBC DSL for two years. The first year I was given an annual plan priced at $29.95 per month. When my renewal time was approaching I phoned SBC and asked if there was a better rate available. I was granted the best rate being offered to new customers at that time: $26.95 /month.
Today I got a renewal notice, offering to give me another 12 months at $26.95. Instead of filling in the online form to renew I phoned the DSL service number. I asked the rep if I could get the rate being offered new customers - $24.99 /month. He looked up my details and said "You don't qualify for the DSL Pro Package rate, because you are too far from the RT. You are currently on the DSL Express plan." I said "that's funny, I'm getting Pro download speeds." He said "That's because they uncapped your connection last year." He then asked me if since I only qualify for the DSL Express package (uncapped) would I be satisifed with paying $14.95 /month?
That new rate goes into effect on my next bill. That is what I used to pay for dialup service just over two years ago.
I strongly advise SBC DSL customers to call and see if you can get this new low DSL Express rate, or $24.99 if you have DSL Pro. I always get high throughput, in the 1300-1304 kbps range, and uploads around 320-329 kbps, and I only pay for DSL Express.
I did have to request that they uncap my DSL number to get these high speeds. I originally was getting around 384 down and 128 up, when i first joined them (two years ago). The DSL Express plan now offers download rates between 384 and 1500 kbps, and uploads from 128 to 384. The DSL Pro plan is from 1.5 to 3 Mbps down and 384 to 512 kbps upstream.
