My Computer Guru put one on mine that is called Registry Mechanic - Can't tell you much about it except I have run it a couple of times and it found and corrected a couple of items each times - Don't know the cost as it was included.

James:
I use "TweakNow RegCleaner" which is a free version and it works pretty good. However, remember that you should really know what you're doing before deleting a registry item.

John,
If I knew what I was doing, I wouldn't need a program to fix my problem ....
........I've tried to do the research on this , and some people say " get a registry program".....Other's say " you don't need a registry program " .....and the majority say, "use a registry program , but be carefull what you delete " ..... I don't have a CLUE as to what i should keep, and what I should delete ...I KNOW that this is something simple because if I leave my computer alone while booting up, after about 20 miinutes or so, everything is loaded in the right place, and I can work fine.....It's like having a puzzle where all the pieces are there, but they have to be put together right to be able to see the whole picture .... My puzzle takes at least 20 minutes to get it's act together so that I can do anything with it !!....Thanks for your help ...PC's are inexpensive, and when they run good , they're great , but they sure are a lot of work .....Too many things to go wrong with them .... I guess if you've run them for a while , you learn what to do with them ....
DOS ??.....What do I do with this ??.....I'm a Mac guy.....I see what I want, put my pointer on it , and click !!....JIm

James,
Like you, I needed it but didn't know enough to know what to cull and what not to cull. I listen to Kim Komando on her Saturday radio program of computer tips, etc. She recommends Registry Mechanic so I tried it. They'll do a free registry scan at
www.pctools.com and then you can purchase it if you want to do any of the fixes. I believe it reflected 842 obsolete whatever and other "thangs" on my computer. I did the free scan, and then paid the 29.95, and just let it do it's thing. Really improved my 'puter's operation. Take a look at
www.komando.com Further affiant sayeth not!

I use PC Rescue from
www.healthycomputerclub.com They also have a free scan program. Will fix folder errors but you have to pay to download the registry fixer.

Guys,
I don't mind paying for a program, I just want to make sure that it doesn't get rid of files or ? unnessesarily .....I can't imagine a computer having 8 hundred and something things in the wrong place !!..
I can see things needing to be organized, but 8 hundred throw aways ? .....WOW !
If Windows can still run after all that , I guess is no small wonder why Bill Gates is as rich as he is !!.... I'll bet he has a little interest in every company that fixes his Windows !!......

As I said before, I don't know much about computers, the registry scan said 8??, mas o menos, I bought the program based on an experts recommendation and after allowing the program to "do it's thing", my computer runs a lot better/faster. That's my story/experience and I'm sticking to it!

Microsoft has spawned a lot companies that devloped utilities for their Operating Systems. Norton is one that comes to mind with the "norton utiliities" for disc maintenance and repair.
"automatic fix" programs, including registry cleaners, can repair some items, however, I've also run across several that really made a mess out of PC's and ultimately required a complete reinstall. Just a word of caution on these types of programs. Before you run any of these programs, backup your registry and also if you have Win ME or XP manually set a System Restore point, in case they are needed.
In reference to the "System Restore", you should ALWAYS set a system restore point before installing any new software or any software updates - Murphy's Law does apply.
(Some programs or updates will create a restore point but do it anyway to be on the safe side).

Jack,
Thanks for your input ....I have used "system restore " and will also back up my registry if I go with any of these programs.....I would rather be able to fix my problem WITHOUT running one of these programs as I don't think that it's anything major that 's wrong with my system ...It DOES load correctly after about 20 minutes of sitting ....It has to go into a mode where the screen saver kick's in, and then when I move the mouse, the screen comes back to normal, and all is well....Everything on the bottom right hand side of my screen looks great , and I can run my computer as normal ....So I think that what I need is still in the computer, it's just that it may be in the wrong order, or in the wrong place , and Window's takes time to find it ...If I knew more about PC , I would be able to find the order and fix it , but you know how that goes ... When I go to do a "repair install" I still get a messge about the halaacpi.dll with a error code of 4 ... This error code of 4 STOP'S me from doing a repair install .....I might just do an OS install on another drive in my computer, and just completely reformat my C: drive and start all over again ....This time with my computer hooked up to a UPS !!!!!!

We discussed using, or not using, the "registry fix" utilities here not long ago. Some of us use them regularly and swear by them, others have an aversion to them and contend they have the potential to do damage.
I've been using RegistryFix and Registry Mechanic over a year now, and they work. I can't remember which one it was now, but one of them found several hundred items on my PC to be eliminated as either incorrect, specious, or obsolete entries, the first time I ran it, similar to what others have reported.
This is not unusual; Microsoft does not include any registry maintenance utilities with Windows, and, over time, the registry WILL become cluttered with these kinds of data. It's quite common, after software has been uninstalled, for references to that software to remain scattered throughout the registry, for example.
I use both the above utilities because, as with anti-spyware programs, they each report different registry issues for deletion. Neither has ever harmed my system, and neither has ever deleted any files. They deal only with entries inside the registry. They do not go outside the registry and wreak havoc randomly on the drive. You can safely delete anything these programs identify as issues WITHOUT WORRYING THAT THEY'LL HURT YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU DO.
I can't speak for all the "registry fix" software out there, but I can recommend these two, and I'd sure try them if I was down to having to totally start over reinstalling Windows and all my software, although there's no guarantee that a clean reinstall wouldn't be necessary in the end anyway.
Having said all that, it appears that the error message you're getting referencing "halaacpi.dll" may have to do with the interaction between your OS and the BIOS, and the way Windows identifies your CPU. If there's an issue there, a registry fix program will not fix it.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Dave Potter on 28 September 2005 at 07:59 AM.]</p></FONT>

To clarify, PCRescue does not clean regitries but merely repairs files including those found in the registry.

Dave ,
I find it interesting that you say that my error can NOT be fixed by a registry fix program......I did a "system restore" back a few days before my problem ....The system restore did NOT fix my problem either ....I think I will just bite the bullet, and do a clean install so I know that I have things in order from the beginning..
Thank you all for your help ....Sincerely, Jim
