I used to be able to rename a .jpg to "guitar"
or whatever....no file extension was necessary.
I changed hard drives and now unless it has a .jpg extension, it renders the picture useless.
Is there a switch or something so I can name a picture without having to have the extension? |

I'm going to assume this is for Windows XP. Open "My computer" and then double click on the drive that has been giving you this problem. A window with the contents of the drive should open. On that window's menu select Tools -> Folder Options... Select the View tab and check the option "Hide extensions for known file types". Then click the "Apply to All Folders" button and hit OK. |

The extension has to be there in Windows, though you can hide it in Windows Explorer. |
