I've added a 2nd hard drive to computer, to keep my mp3's and pictures on, that eat up so much of the space on my C drive.
I've formatted the new drive, which is now my "F" drive, but when I add a folder and load anything into, I ultimately get a messaage that says the drive is corrupted and it erases the contents. Any ideas on what's going on, or what I need to check out?

| Have you "initialized" the drive? Many new drives come with a program to initialize it and format it. If you are using Windows XP, you should be formatting it for NTFS. If you are on Win9x/Me - format it for FAT32. |

Jack, I bought the hard drive 2nd hand and didn't receive a disk with it. I'm not sure how to initialize it, but I have formatted it for windows XP.

If it's a Western Digital, they have a free program on their web site that will initialize/format, etc. If it's another brand I'm not sure that the WD program will work on that.
Also, make sure it's "strapped" correctly for the device addressing. If your system uses Cable Select, like most newer systems, that drive should also be set for Cable Select. If you have an older system with the Master/Slave scheme then you'll have to set if for slave, but since it's an XP system it's most likely set for the Cable Select. The Cable Select jumper slot may be labeled "CS" or "CSEL" on the drive. |

Johnny, I am not sure if this will help you, but I would try deleting the partition, then creating it again, in Win XP.
