On a cassette player, you can stop it back up and replay a certain lick or bar to learn with. Is there such a thing as a portable CD player that can do this ? I know the DVD discs can be fast forwarded and reversed, paused and so forth but have not seen such in a portable CD player ?
I am not situated to use my computer while playing. Thanks. |

Bill,
I bought such an animal years ago from Radio Shack. Instructional tapes were only available on tape and with this player I could set it for repeats of a certain portion. I doubt if they are still abailable, though.

Oops, sorry Bill, I guess you were talking about a CD player.[This message was edited by Erv Niehaus on 07 January 2005 at 08:20 AM.] |

I have a TASCAM CD-GT1. It can run on batteries or a 9V adapter. It can "loop" parts of songs and slow them down or change pitch (Key) if you want. see: http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum15/HTML/005947.html
for mine and other Forum Members opinion of it. |

Bill - I just got a Tascam CD-GT1 guitar trainer. I bought it just to see if it really did what they claimed. The damn thing WORKS! The quality of the audio gets little funky when you slow it down by a factor of 32 or more, but just being able to loop a phrase or a lick and give it a careful listen with headphones is really slick. It's well worth the money. [This message was edited by Bill Bosler on 07 January 2005 at 04:45 PM.] |

Guys---By the term "looping a phrase"--do you mean selecting a particular bar or two and playing just that, over and over ? Thanks. |

Yes it will do that Bill. I have a GT-1 and also it will allow you to change keys to a rhythm track that you may have recorded in the key of B, or some other key, and you want to play it in another key, you have the ability to move UP or DOWN three 1/2 tones from your origional key. So if you wanted to play your key of B track in C or A there would be no problem. Also, if you are using tracks with a singer and he can't sing with a track in say D, you can move it to E or F or C or B depending. This is a very versital CD player. It will do a LOT more if you just read the manual and experiment around some with it. It's worth the money in my opinion. The GT-1 can be purchased from Musician's Friend. |
