| I expect this has been posted before but I was wondering if buying refill kits is worth the trouble and mess ? I have an hp officejet 6110 all-in-one printer. Thanks. |

Not for me. My inkjet printer is on the shelf in permanent retirement.
I looked at the slick web sites that sell ink jet refill supplies and talk in glowing terms about how simple and cheap it is to keep breathing new life into old cartridges, and gave it a try.
For my Lexmark cartridges, at least, I can report that the color cartridge can't be simply drilled to refill - it has to be pried open, and that process can be quite destructive, leading to leaks and inadequate sealing for any new ink put in it.
That, and the general mess all this can make (I have permanent ink stains on my den carpet), as well as the ink-feed problems I've had with these cartridges, has led me to the conclusion that inkjet equipment just isn't anything I wish to have any more dealings with.
Other brands of inkjet equipment may not be as much hassle, but I'm outta' here, far as inkjet stuff is concerned. |

No opinion on refilling, but I do have one on "store brand", Epson does not like anything but Epson ink. I tried a store brand and had to finally replace it with epson product to get it to work properly.

I have a older HP,I filled it about two years ago and it was a piece of cake.Push a little ball bearing in,fill it with a syringe then put another ball bearing in the hole that comes with the kit.I have enough ink for a couple more refills.Kit was about $20,a new ink cartridge is about $35.To me it's worth the trouble to refill,really no trouble.

Thanks for the input guys--Wally World is selling refills now so I might venture a try soon--I have a building business here and we do several photo print outs from time to time so need color. I have no problem with the HP unit but the refills are a bit pricey--I might better stock up on hand cleaner too -  [This message was edited by Bill Myrick on 04 January 2005 at 03:36 AM.] |

I am a fulltime Computer networking tecnician at a major medical lab.In other words i am an I.S guy. I tried to do it and made a mess. Also the ink cartridges usually get dry and even adfte fillig they dont work well. I would suggest spending the extra money and getting new cartridges.....  |

I refilled mine for several years on my older HP printer, but then one time it leaked out during the night and ruined the printer. I'll buy the new ones or at least the oned refilled at the factory.
A Best Buy clerk told me that some cartridges now have a chip in them that will allow you to fill them but then they won't allow them to operate.
I really don't know if that is true.

| Bill, www.discoverink.com has refills for your HP Officejet 6110 for $38.85 for the pair of color & black. I have an Epson and I get mine a lot cheaper than HP but I've had good luck ordering from them. Ray |

Same here.

I've decided to save all that money for a laser printer.
