On the Carter steel page, there are .mp3 files of recordings which demonstrate different pickups available. The player is Billy Phelps, using (one of his?) CD rhythm tracks (of "A Way to Survive"). The track sounds like it was built in BIAB, and I like the style alot, but don't have a clue what BIAB style it might be or where to find it (or if it was built in BIAB!). It sure would be a good one for steel players to have around in the toolbox.

The .mp3 file can be found at http://www.steelguitar.com/sound/mp3/gle66.mp3 . Have a listen - and NAME THAT STYLE! PLEASE! I especially like the bass line playing I,V,III,I passing tones in triplets.

I'd love to know where to get a copy of the style file. To return (or to pass on) the favor, I'm willing to create/host a web page to share similar styles which are commonly handy for steel players.

Somebody's got to recognize this thing. Thanks in advance. -Dave

the closest I can get to it is c-rprice. Billy will probably answer this in a couple of days. He is a whiz so he may have constructed his own style. CC

I might be wrong about this one, but I think Billy cuts his own rhythm tracks using himself on all instruments, without aid of computer generated tracks.

I've got the all the r_price BIAB files and they don't have the bass triplet licks present on that track. So I think it was cut live.

I think Billy uses Cakewalk to do his tracks. I think he may play his own stuff.
