I’m not one to publicly trash companies and I always give them a fair opportunity to stick by they product. However, the folks at Roxio have failed to do so. Ironically, I’ve voiced my support and satisfaction with their product a number of times here regarding the vinyl-to-CD topics.
I ordered and downloaded online the upgrade of Easy CD Creator to the Platinum Edition in November, 2002. Apparently I failed to save the download file on my PC, assuming I even had that option; can’t find it anywhere. I recently replaced my PC because lightning damaged the one with Easy CD Creator installed.
My new PC did come with the Easy Creator 5 installed, again with the option to upgrade to the Platinum Edition. I encountered problems trying to obtain another download of my software even though I have the pertinent information (order date, order number, confirmation e-mail, CD key, tech support ID, etc). The download site didn’t have record of my order, which they attempt to access in their database given your e-mail address and zip code. Someone should tell them the zip code doesn’t have anything to do with e-mail addresses.
I called the 800 number they were kind enough to list. I think there have been some acquisitions or changes in the support arrangements at Roxio and the information I had didn’t enable them to access my order. After checking with tech support, the customer service agent promptly called me back and informed me that they no longer have the “version 5” site up and could not provide me with my software. Got the same story from their own customer support in Toronto. This not only reflects poorly on Roxio but also on ordering software downloads on line w/o a CD.
I really do like the product and it meets my needs, but I cannot see shelling out more money for the latest version if they won’t stand behind the earlier version – despite the fact that Dell is still shipping with Version 5. I’m told that the upgrade is to Version 7 Platinum.
However, all is not lost. I believe I still have all of the executable programs—the additional apps that come with the Platinum Edition—and the seem to work if I double click on the application files. Once I get through my stack of LP’s I won’t have much use for the package, much less Roxio in general.

Hey Ron,
EZ CD Creator did move parent companies, so perhaps your data was lost during the transition. One solution is (since you have a legitimate CD key), you just need someone with a version 7 CD and use it as a install disc. Enter your key when prompted. May not be an option for you, but could at least get you back to where you were.
That said, I have to agree that EZ CD Creator is not the product it once was. After using CD Creator from version 4, I found that 7 was truly not as good as it once was. I got multiple kernel level crashes of the application on every machine I tried it with. I have since dumped it and moved to Nero Ultra Edition, and haven’t looked back.
There is a demo you can load from their website should you want to try something different. http://www.nero.com/us/nero6-ultraedition.php
Good luck

I have yet to check it out, but I've recently seen some excellent reviews of the freeware program Deep Burner. |
