My computer balked tonite at startup and demanded I put in a boot disk to start it up! Fortunately, I somehow managed to trick it into starting anyway, and it seems ok now, but I don't want to press my luck. Can someone tell me how to burn a startup disk for Win2000? There must be a function on the 'puter somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
Thx,
jc

Look in Start-Help for "Emergency Repair Disk". There is a full walkthrough of how to create one using the Win2K backup tool.

A word to the wise, if you're having trouble starting the computer, I strongly advise backing up your entire system ASAP!

Jim you might want to check out http://www.bootdisk.com for more info on bootdisks for Win2K as well as all other flavors of windows. Also, there is info for making bootable CDs for computers without floppy drives.

Thanks, guys. My 'puter is old enough to have a floppy drive in it, but I was thinking I could burn the startup files onto a CD-R and start from that, no? Or, perhaps the CD-R drive won't work at that point and I have to use the floppy?

Yep, still putting floppy drives in. Just bought a new box last week; although, I think you can configure them withoout that.

The build-in backup exec in XP Professional creates a floppy boot disk. I suspect I should kick it over to CD just to have one.

Have a look at http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/ntboot/.

Also check out BartPE (preinstalled environment) at http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ for working on Win2K systems that wont start up properly.
