I have Norton 2003 in my Windows XP Pro.. I am trying to un-install it, because the quarantine isn't working proper, then I'd like to re-install it... There is no way it will let me un-install it.. I tried through add/remove programs, through it's own un-install, under programs, & also by inserting the CD in it... with all 3 I get it to start unistalling then it goes about 10%, & I get a box up that says uninstall aborted because of error, then OK.. no other options.. When I go to add/remove programs & high light it, the only option I get is CHANGE but not a Remove option... Can any body tell me how I can remove Norton in any other way, so I can reinstall a new version.. Also when I double click on the Norton Icon on my desktop nothing happens, but I can get it up through programs..when I click to check my Quarantine, I get a message saying ERROR CREATING QUARANTINE OBJECT...PLEASE REINSTALL NORTON ANTI VIRUS, but I can't reinstall it.. Thanks John

The 'error creating quarantine object' message indicates that you may have a virus. Corrupting the anti-virus software is the first thing some of these viruses does.
There's been a rush of new viruses lately and one of those may have slipped through if your virus definitions hasn't been up to date.

One option for removing Norton is searching for the components manually (start - search - files and folders - search for 'symantec' and 'norton'). This MAY do the trick, but I'm not too optimistic, even a Norton that's working correct can be hard to uninstall sometimes.

If you'd known the name of the virus (if that's what you got), you could go to the Symantec website and download a removal tool for that spesific virus. Check the 'Report' page in your Norton if you can access it, the action over the last couple of days might reveal the name of the virus.
Worst case scenario is reformating your hard disk (sorry).....

Thanks, no I can't access reports, & reformatting is not good news at all... I have my XP disk here with me, (I'm in South Texas for the winter), but I don't have any driver disks here, sound card, video card, modem etc... So a big Ouch... John

Our computer came with McAffee Anti Virus which is similar to Norton We got a virus that disabled the McAffee program

I was able to get a program downloaded named AVG Grisoft Anti Virus This program contained the virus (along with several others)and has worked very well for me

This is a free program and they constantly update it automaticaly It can be set to come on and scan your files any time you want it to or you can click on it and scan for virus any time you want to
It has email scanner, etc

Hope this may be of help to you

Respectfuly

Larry
