It's been a while since I have played any sound bites and I find that when I try now I need to download a player source and real player now has a name of real one or something and charges 19.95 every 3 months or something. Are the days of free real player over and what is the best route now. Windows media won't recognize the files on Ricky and Rebels page thanks--

They still have a free player called RealOne, but they make it as difficult as possible to find and download it.

Go to http://www.real.com and click on "Free RealOne Player" in the top right hand corner. Keep following the links, making sure you're still going after the free one, and eventually you'll get to a page you can download from, after you've signed away your first born.

Bill:
Go to this site and you can d/load older versions of Real Player. I personally have no use for the Real One Player.

I tried to upgrade to the latest free player, but all I could get was a "free trial period" on the RealOne Player! I'll try these links above and see if I get anywhere... Thanks.

Jim : I went to the same download program as you and found the same download but----up in the right corner, rather hidden and sneaky, is a small "click on" to down load the free version- you have to look closely--it's called real one player but it is the free version and seems to work fine. Bill -

I quit useing "REAL_PLAYER" aka "REAL_ONE" because it attempts to grab hold of any sound file on your system. Now, a lot of files will not play thru "REAL-PLAYER",so it's a hassle to remove "REAL-PLAYER" as your default player.

"QUICK-TIME" player also attempts to do the same thing.

Now, I don't mind paying for a sound codece, but I don't want to have to pay out for it again and again every 3 or 4 months !!

So,at this time I do have a few sound files that I cain't play due to needing to up-grade to a newer and costly codece.
