I want to record from old tapes on the computer but why can I only record 60 seconds of song in sound recorder. The 60 sec results are fine but most songs are 3 minutes or more.Is there some setting to allow more time to record a full song?

John, Sound Recorder really isn't intended for the use you want. I use
Polderbits, but there are many other inexpensive or free programs that will record audio.
Exact Audio Copy (free)
Audacity (free)
dbpoweramp (free)
I could list dozens, and I'm sure some forumites can also add their favorites.....
Or browse here for demos:
Hitsquad
Happy hunting.......

I use TotalRecorder from highcriteria.com It's not a bad program and a bit cheaper than Polderbits, but if I had it to do over I would use PolderBits.

I haven't tried the others, but I'm very happy with Polderbits. Also like Depopper to take out crackle and pop.
