The line in to my on-the board soundcard does not work. So, i was thinking of installing a cheap card like Soundblaster so i can post music online. The problem is, i only have one slot. And if i change the jumper for a acrd then my Wintel modem won't work. So what can i do? Is there any card that has a modem built on it?

You could get an extenal modem.
It uses a Com port.

Slots all full? What else do you have in there?

Just get a new sound card, they are only $25 for the basic ones.

This is a computer that has the sound and graphics on the board. Other than that there is only 1 expansion slot. Directions say that if you install a soundcard and change the jumper the modem will be disconnected.

I have a USB port open, and a serial port (com). Which is best for modem? Also, i can install a PCI or ISA sound card. 16 bit is fine with me. Should i go cheap and get an ISA off eBay? Or stay with a PCI?

Have you gone into the mixer control panel and enabled the line input on your soundcard? It may be muted. Make sure you are in the recording tab under advanced.

My Computer came with an on board Sound card. I disabled it in the BIOS setup and put a Sound Blaster Live in and it works great and has very good sound quality. It cost aprox $100 1 year ago.
