Virus

Post by Richard Bass »

I think I got it. The only thing I can do on my laptop is access the internet. Nothing and I mean nothing else will work. I believe it came in to my system thru Audio Galaxy. All of the icons are gone for all my downloads, no word, excel, power point. I can't even get "settings" to load. HELP!!

This same e-mail worm happened to a buddy of mine. Do what you can to get it off of there, like go out and BUY a copy of Norton or the like, since you can't get it from the internet. If that doesn't work, format and restart from scratch. It might sound a little bit too simplistic, cause you've most likely got a bunch of information you'd rather not lose. But the problem is you don't know what's infected and what's not. Get the newest virus definitions from somebody who CAN get on the internet. Contact your closest trusted Tech-Weenie for more support questions. And Please don't e-mail ME! I don't have it yet, and I could deal wonderfully without having it. I guess it does pay to be the new guy every once in a while. Nobody knows you well enough to put you in their Contacts folder.

Best of luck to all of you.

If you knew which virus got you, if it is a virus not a system problem, you could go to one of the sites and get the instructions to manually remove it.

But, before you reload the computer, try to get a set of Norton "rescue disks" or the McAfee rescue set or whatever they call it from a friend. Those disks run in DOS mode and can clean systems. When you load they will come up with "incompatible" system and various other error notices, because they are not being loaded on the system they were created with, but just ignore them and continue. It's worth a try and may save you from reloading.
